Degree….Done!

Well that is it! My BA (Hons) Contemporary Applied Arts is complete! The Degree show has been taken down and I’m all packed for New Designers! I just want to say a huge thank-you to everyone who came, to all those who have and continued to support me and to my loving parents who not only support me emotional but very much financially!- I really do owe you everything and more!

I have moved back to North Yorkshire for the time being and have set up my workshop/studio so I can continue to work!

So heres the plan for the next few months…

Next week I plan to take a week off and go on holiday to a lovely remote cottage on a beach on Barra; a tiny island that makes up the Western Isles of Scotland. A place to relax and collect my thoughts before travelling down to London for New Designers!

After the Week at New Designers I plan to join a temping agency to assist me in paying off the overdraft and to save money for various things such as materials, exhibitions, a Masters degree, travelling around Europe and repaying the Parents!!!! Being a temp for a while gives me the flexibility to carry on making and applying for exhibitions, competitions and jobs in the art sector.

In the mean time I continue to hope and work towards bigger and better things.

Current Work….

Feather & Lace CollarThis is what i am currently working on at the moment!  I am making a range of collars and ruffs which are interchangeable and oh so very wearable! Simply wear as you would a necklace… perfect for dressing up a jumper, plain tee or wear them how you like!!!

Suitable for men and women. Children’s collars are also available… just ask!

The collars are comfortable and many are lined with silk, they can be stacked up for the wow factor and to create individual looks; a single collar for day time, 3+ for evening or an occasion. The collars can be presented in box frames; ideal for interiors such as bed rooms, dressing rooms, bath rooms, childrens rooms etc. Personal commisions are also available… if you want to find that extra special individual gift!

Farewell…

Free Machine Embroidered Girl.

Donated table linen from friends and family, old photographs from charity shops and eBay and my great-grandmothers scrapbook handed down to me from my Grandma; these items have all been abandoned, forgotten or inherited and more surprisingly act as my main sources of inspiration for this project.

Narrative, imagery and embroidery are apparent and vital in my work. Narrative and imagery spur on my work and give it focus; embroidery provides a discipline in which I can achieve this.

This is an early sample of my work for this project, an image of a girl from one of the cabinet photographs created using free machine embroidery on a photocopy (torn away after stitching), hand dyed cotton and natural wadding. I love old this, especially things that look a forgotten and a bit worn. Through loose threads, frayed edges and varied tension in the stitch i can replicate this worn look. More images to come! Keep posted! x
